Unlike the binary clean/treated determination of the Compliance Gate, this report quantifies the specific composition of the waste stream including wood species distribution, treatment type identification, and contamination percentage by weight.

The characterization covers: estimated percentage of clean dimensional lumber (SPF — Spruce/Pine/Fir), engineered wood products (OSB, plywood, MDF), treated wood by treatment type (CCA, ACQ, copper azole), painted or stained wood, and non-wood contaminants (metal fasteners, concrete, drywall). This granular breakdown informs both regulatory compliance and feedstock quality decisions.

For clean loads entering the pyrogenic biocarbon pathway, the characterization report verifies feedstock specifications: less than 10% moisture content, 2-4mm chip profile suitability, and absence of treatment chemicals that would compromise biochar quality. For contaminated loads, the report quantifies the specific contaminants present to inform proper disposal routing.
