Description / Biocarbon Feedstock Quality Certificate
Biocarbon Feedstock Quality Certificate — Processing Specification
The Biocarbon Feedstock Quality Certificate verifies that processed clean wood waste meets the specifications required for pyrogenic biocarbon production. This is the quality gate between the Digital Refinery's waste processing operations and the downstream biocarbon conversion facility, ensuring that only material meeting strict specifications enters the high-value pyrolysis pathway.
Feedstock specifications include: moisture content below 10% (measured by NIR spectroscopy), chip size profile of 2-4mm (optimized for uniform pyrolysis), absence of chemical contaminants (verified by XRF analysis), absence of non-wood materials (metal fasteners, concrete, plastic), species composition documentation, and FIFO compliance verification (material processed within safe retention period).
The certificate traces feedstock back through the full Digital Refinery pipeline: Compliance Gate classification, Chain of Custody, Hub sensor verification (XRF/NIR), and processing records. This traceability ensures that any quality issue can be traced to its source load and root cause analyzed for process improvement.
For downstream biocarbon processors and offtake partners like Index Energy Ajax (25-MW biomass cogeneration facility processing 158,000 tonnes per year of C&D wood), the Feedstock Quality Certificate provides the assurance that incoming material meets process requirements. Consistent feedstock quality reduces processing variability, improves biochar yields, and supports reliable CORC generation.
